Interface and visual review
This review examines the live WP Quiz Showcase, its SSOT, and the learner and administrator interfaces of all ten live-bench plugins. It complements the capability, runtime, licensing, and coexistence evidence; visual polish does not override a failed attempt or unsupported free-tier capability.
Method and evidence boundary
- Captured 2026-08-03 in desktop Chromium from the live WordPress multisite.
- One curated learner-facing crop and one administrator-facing crop were retained per plugin: 20 PNGs total.
- Crops remove browser chrome and unrelated page furniture while preserving the complete visible native plugin surface under review.
- Learner screenshots show the native quiz/result when a working path existed. Forminator and Tutor instead show their honest blockers because neither produced a verified learner result.
- Admin screenshots show the native authoring surface or, for Tutor, the HTTP 500 critical-error response returned by every tested admin route.
- Findings apply to this captured bench state. They do not claim that every installation of a plugin behaves identically.
Review verdict
Overall correctness: incorrect for the live showcase as a release candidate.
Two evidence and operability defects are release-blocking:
- HD Quiz presents the Q10 ordering prompt as a
multiple_choice_textsubstitute while the evidence and matrix record ordering as unsupported and Q10 as omitted. The live surface must either omit Q10 or implement and verify true ordering; a single-choice substitute cannot count as coverage. - Every Tutor admin and authoring route tested during this review returned HTTP 500. The current SSOT statement that the dashboard remained usable describes an earlier capture and is no longer true for the reviewed state.
The SSOT information architecture is otherwise coherent, explicit about evidence tiers, and better than the live hub at containing wide tables on narrow screens.
Prioritized findings
| Priority | Surface | Finding | Required disposition |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | HD Quiz | Live Q10 is a single-choice substitute although ordering is documented as unsupported and omitted. | Remove Q10 from the live quiz or implement and re-verify native ordering; do not credit the substitute. |
| P1 | Tutor LMS | Every tested admin/authoring route returned HTTP 500. The learner path remained behind Enroll Now. | Restore admin operability, then repeat author and learner completion checks. |
| P2 | Showcase hub | At a 390 px viewport, the ranking table makes the document about 603 px wide because its table wrapper allows visible horizontal overflow. | Keep overflow local to a horizontally scrollable table container. |
| P2 | H5P | The content-directory request returned HTTP 403 and the reviewed admin preview showed a broken Background image. | Repair the content URL and preview asset path, then repeat the editor and coexistence checks. |
| P2 | Page hierarchy | The theme title and authored content create repeated H1 headings on the hub, Forminator, and PressPrimer pages; H5P presents an H1/H2 duplication. | Enforce one page-level H1 and demote or remove the duplicate authored heading. |
| P2 | Comparison usability | Capability states such as ok, unsupported, and pro-gated appear without an inline legend or direct methodology link on the compare page. | Add an on-page status legend, scope note, and explicit Forminator save-blocker note. |
| P2 | Tutor accessibility | The large learner placeholder SVG has no alternative text. | Provide meaningful alternative text or mark a purely decorative image accordingly. |
| P3 | Comparison semantics | Comparison tables lack captions and explicit scope at the table itself. | Add concise captions that state free-tier and capture-date scope. |
| P3 | Coexistence navigation | The iframe lab needs a stronger blocked-frame/keyboard fallback, and the wiki root does not link directly to the live lab. | Add a direct live-lab link and an accessible fallback outside each iframe. |
Showcase and SSOT strengths
- The hub has a semantic page title, labeled table headers, and direct routes to the tour, comparison, coexistence lab, methodology, and wiki.
- The hub roster links both the live demos and their dossiers; no broken navigation link was observed in the reviewed paths.
- The SSOT root mirrors the top-ten roster and gives clear Start Here routes.
- The plugin index clearly separates ten live-bench dossiers from seven documentation-tier systems.
- The comparison section frames capability, runtime, and coexistence as different questions rather than collapsing them into one score.
- The methodology explicitly states the weighted rubric, evidence tiers, free-tier boundary, and completion-failure policy.
- Quartz contains wide comparison tables correctly on the tested narrow viewport.
Plugin-by-plugin visual review
| Plugin | Learner-facing review | Admin review | Screenshot dossier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quiz and Survey Master | Working Core Six, but long and lightly styled; generic completion message. | Dense wizard with telemetry, cache, and add-on notices competing with authoring. | QSM visual evidence |
| Quiz Maker by AYS | Strongest guided flow: progress, timer, 87% result, corrections, explanations. | Discoverable radio, checkbox, and explanation fields; promotion-heavy. | Quiz Maker visual evidence |
| H5P | Clear, self-contained Question Set player and completion summary. | Library-driven workflow; broken Background image preview and associated HTTP 403. | H5P visual evidence |
| Forminator | No native quiz persisted; the page correctly discloses the blocker. | Polished Knowledge/Personality modal, followed by a save/publish failure. | Forminator visual evidence |
| Watu | Legible complete result in a long traditional single-page layout. | Capable but dense legacy interface with a dominant WatuPRO rail. | Watu visual evidence |
| HD Quiz | Clean modern cards, timer, and 10/10 result; Q10 is not proof of ordering. | Streamlined editor; explanation body absent from the reviewed all-correct result. | HD Quiz visual evidence |
| PressPrimer Quiz | Best expectation-setting and formal result review, including confidence state. | Clean, structured assessment controls without a dominant promotion rail. | PressPrimer visual evidence |
| Chained Quiz | Understandable branching, but low-contrast disabled progression; anomalous 10/9 result. | Conventional points and destination list; promotions compete with branch authoring. | Chained Quiz visual evidence |
| Tutor LMS | Blank-dominant course surface and Enroll Now blocker; no learner result. | HTTP 500 critical-error response on every tested route. | Tutor visual evidence |
| Quiz Cat | Excellent simplicity, progress, touch targets, and clear 3/6 result. | Clear constrained MCQ editor with a persistent Premium boundary rail. | Quiz Cat visual evidence |

Decision boundary
The screenshots are evidence, not decoration. They establish what a learner or author could actually see on this bench at capture time. They do not rescue unsupported capabilities, replace completion evidence, or generalize a bench-specific failure into a universal product claim. Resolve the two P1 findings before treating the live showcase as internally consistent.
