Pricing and source

  • Free tier: available from wordpress.org; covers basic multiple-choice knowledge quizzes.
  • Premium: personality quizzes, weighted answers, email capture and analytics/reporting are Premium-gated. The free install deliberately did not enable paid code.
  • Price note: The free core is $0; Premium pricing was not captured because no licence was purchased. Vendor site is the authoritative source for current Premium pricing.

Quiz Cat Free natively authors single-answer multiple-choice questions only. The Core Six were created verbatim in the native editor and published with the shortcode [quiz-cat id="5"]. Q7–Q10 have no free-tier question editor, so they were not faked into the quiz and are recorded as unsupported.

Signature feature walkthrough

  • Signature URL: https://wpqp.loca.zone/quizcat/signature/
  • Attempted signature: minimal personality quiz.
  • Observed result: opening the native Personality Type editor (quiz_type=pt) exposed the Premium upgrade path (Upgrade to Premium / Build Awesome Quizzes With Quiz Cat Premium). Personality quizzes, weighted answers, email capture and analytics/reporting are Premium-gated on the free install; no paid code or workaround was used.

Catches and caveats

  • Very narrow free question model: only single-answer multiple choice is available without Premium. This makes it unsuitable for assessments that need multi-select, true/false, free-text or ordering questions.
  • Personality and lead capture are paywalled: the signature marketing features are not present on the free tier.
  • Small install base: 4,000 active installs and 35 ratings, the smallest of the live roster.
  • No jQuery dependency: the front end is lightweight and modern; this is a strength for page-weight budgets.

Verdict

Quiz Cat is small and simple to drop into a page, but the free tier is intentionally thin. Use it for quick, single-answer multiple-choice engagement where low transfer weight matters more than question-type breadth, scoring depth or lead capture. For anything beyond basic MCQ—multi-select, fill-in, ordering, personality outcomes or analytics—expect to upgrade or choose a fuller roster plugin.
